Comedy Cellar

The “Harvard” of comedy clubs.

Last weekend SNL celebrated 50 seasons! They had an anniversary special at 30 Rock and it was a star-studded event. A lot of these comedians started their career in a little basement in Greenwich Village, also known as the Comedy Cellar.

Last week before the SNL special, I got together with fellow Oregon Alumni and we attended the 7:30pm show at the Village Underground - the Comedy Cellar has 3 different rooms, Village Underground is one of them. I had a feeling that someone famous could drop in since SO many celebrities were in New York for the SNL special. Plus they had a huge concert the following night at Radio City Music Hall, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up so I kept quiet about it.

Colin Quinn was one of the comedians during our show, who is always so funny. But then they did last call after the 3rd comedian, which I found to be very odd. At every show, there’s 5 comedians and last call is towards the end…so why are they doing this so early?! Fast forward to our last comedian of the night and out walks Ray Romano from Everybody Loves Raymond. Let me just say that Ray looks AMAZING for 67! He had a lot a funny jokes and mentioned how he’s doing Ice Age 5 - didn’t realize they created a sequel and more?! Overall, we had a great time and it was such a fun way to end our evening.
